Workshop Description: Art Meets GIS!

Students and educators use geographic information systems (GIS), GPS, and digital imagery to create a virtual georeferenced art gallery of environmental landscape art. Students studying noted British landscape artist Andy Goldsworthy create their own landscape art outside, choosing their own medium and space. Digital images and GPS coordinates are then captured. Data is imported into the ArcExplorer for Educators V.2.3 (AEJEE) GIS software (a free download for educators from ESRI), and serves to create an interactive GIS database, complete with hotlinks to digital images, uploaded to a GIS web server for the public to access.  The end result is a permanent virtual tour record of the art, long after the art has decayed, eroded, or simply washed away!

Bryan is a Technology Integrator and MLTI Teacher Leader at York High School with a specific background and interest in implementing GIS in all curriculum areas.
